Post-grad vent!
I think I am very fed up with being defined by my major and/or job. Uh, I’m pretty sure I’m more than just, “Rebekah Lee. Film Major.” As Christians, we need to stop defining ourselves and others by what the world defines us as. Sure, for many of us, our majors and jobs reflect our interests and passions. But on the other hand, for some of us, it doesn’t! And if that is all we see in others, that’s just sad. We need to be intentional and dig deeper.
I need to rebuke myself and say, “Rebekah, stop it. You are first and foremost God’s daughter. You are not defined by your major. You are not defined by your job. You are defined by Christ.”
For those who haven’t graduated yet, I think my advice is that when you have group introductions, don’t do the usual: “Name, Year, Major.” It might help you to get connected in school, but also know in the back of your head that there is so much more to a person than their academics.
Our purpose in life is not about us. It’s not about what we want to do or even who we want to be. It’s solely about Christ. The end goal is not graduation! The end goal is not that perfect job! The end goal is Christ, and we already have Him.
